I just bought a 08' custom 1200cc sportster (105th Anniversary). It sounds like a SEWING MACHINE!! (hahah) Can I drill out the baffles in my exhaust and not affect (too drastically) the amount of Lean/Rich ratio that I am running? If so how? And will this affect the lifetime of my motor?
welcome here and i hope you enjoy the place. sounds like you have a real nice bike there, send us some pics when u can. be careful drilling out the baffles, the EFI might be able to handle it. you might be better served getting new pipes and upgrading your air cleaner, that would make a big difference in not only the sound but the performance as well. probably add 5 or more HP. you can post some of these questions in the sportster section to see what others have to offer, and alot of this has already been covered pretty extensively. good luck with whatever you do and let us know how it turns out. in the meantime, enjoy the ride...
Thank you for your input. It sounds like good advice! I guess I am just trying to keep the cost down in any area that I can because the cost is sure to UP in many other areas! eg: gear, chrome, etc. My thinking was that if I could get some sound out of the "drilling baffles trick" without hurting the bikes overall output or motor lifetime then I may give it a try. But if the cost of adding slips, power commander, etc is reasonable then that would be the ideal way to do it sure.
