Just joined today after hearing of this forum on XLForum.net. Looks like a pretty good place to hang out.
I have a 87 Sporty and my wife has a 87 Sporty too. Mine is a 1380cc hot rod and hers is a 883 converted to a 1200.
If you went to AMRA Harley drags between 94 and 97 you might have seen me or even met me. I ran in the SS/XL class. Class champ in 96 & 97 and held the quarter mile et record from 96 till they allowed ported heads in 2002. Ran 10.81 @ 120 with 1200cc and bolt on parts with stock 93-1200 heads, air shift and wheelie bars. Was making just over 100 hp at that time.
The 1380cc motor was built in 98 by me, starting with new cases. S&S lightweight race bottom end with Wiseco 3 3/4" flat pistons. Heads are 86-883 with Big Twin valves and portwork By Don Tilley. Chambers are pretty close to stock size, so compression is around 11.5:1, probably a bit more. Cams are Andrews V-8. Carb is a special built Mikuni 42 with a billet back that bolts to a S&S "E" manifold. Transmission has some Andrews gears and shafts in it and shifts real nice. ;-)
It is a pretty fun bike to ride. From 50 to 100 in a three count. Looks pretty much like a stock 883 till you look real close. I have a bit of fun with the kids on crotch rockets.
Looking forward to meeting some of you.
Ted
What city in Ohio are you from. I was raised in the Cincy area (Loveland) but have lived in Illinois for the past 30 years. Enjoy the forum. If you need anything, give me a shout.
Ted: Welcome from Cleveland! I am in the Independence/Brecksville area. Where are you at? Looks like you are definitely no stranger to motorcycles. You will like this forum as there are really nice people here.
