Default What would you do??? Updated....

Well I have been lurking and decided to join in and ask yalls opinion.

I have owned a few metric cruisers and currently have a CBR1000 (crotch rocket), but I have not been happy on any of them. I am looking at buying a new bike in cash in the next week or so and have looked at everything from Iron Horse to Big Dog to Harleys.

Harley is in my blood (long story), but I am not sure what model is for me. I have rented just about every model and I like the Heritage Softail, didn't really like the fat boy due to the solid disk wheels, and the spring looked kind silly to me with the wide tank and I am not digging the front fender struts either. I don't currently do a lot of long rides more in town and bar hopping type stuff, but I would like to start doing more toy runs and party type runs. I am not into the long 300 mile a day runs though I get to board.

Anyway what would you suggest, also I have read that most dealers don't haggle much but will throw in access. I am going to offer MSRP with a free stage 1 kit for a cash deal on what ever I pick out. What do you think the odds are?

Jeff

Depending on how large the dealer is you go to the more likely you are to get them to work with ya. As far as bike models go for the type of riding you're describing I'd recommend the Road King custom.

Welcome from TN.

Most of the time when you ride the bikes it helps on the decision, right now you don't think you will make many longer rides, but you might change your mind when you get that Harley, for some reason. I'm kinda a RK guy myself, and if I had the funds I'd have two or more Harleys, but I would never give up my RK, I like the storage and the ride, and there's tons of goodies available for it. Good luck on your decision, I'm sure you'll love it, whichever model you go with.

Cash deals don't impress many dealers, they make more money financing. Negotiate your best deal $$$ wise than go for the giveme's to make the deal. How about a SE Deuce?

The softail heritage is a great all around bike. Very comfortable, smooth, low center of gravity and storage. TC (above) is correct. The dealers really don't care about cash transactions anymore. It's actually more trouble for them because they have to fill out special paperwork for cash over $10,000 dollars (because of drug money). Negotiate for the most accessories you can then shop around if you feel you can do better somewhere else. Bikes are selling really good right now so they won't go below MSRP. Her is another angle. If they are advertising MSRP check the additional cost for setup and freight. Some dealers are making a mint on those add ons.

Thanks for the help guys. I have not even looked at the RK's yet I am do that though. I am guessing that I am bit younger then most on this fourm at 28 and the RK to me has always been one of those bikes that you grow into. No offense to anyone.

Funny you mention that I am actually going to talk to someone this weekend that has a Deuce for sale on EBay this weekend. To bad you are in New York or I would be coming to see you as well. What can you tell me about the Deuces? This is one model I am not to familure with and I have not had to much time to do research yet.

Here is the deuce I am going to look at.

Heritage or a Road King would be my suggestion. Let us know how your offer turns out with the dealer.
