Throttle Problem
I just purchased an '06 Ultra Classic--changed out the exhaust and grips--Since the first day I rode, the throttle grip seems to roll back very slowly when shifting causing the engine to race between shifts. Also, when on a highway, I will give more throttle and when I release the throttle grip, the bike runs like it is on cruise for a moment, I can see the throttle grip roll slowly back, then the engine throttles down. I took it back to the dealer and he checked the grips and test rode it. He says it's OK--I let another rider take the bike for a ride and he says something is very wrong with the throttle--
I'm taking the bike back this week to the dealer--It seems to do this most within the first 30 minutes of the ride.
I never had this problem with my other bikes. Has anyone had similar experiences?

Welcome Jmack,
Welcome to the forum. The dealer needs to loosen your throttle housing and see where the bind is. It's easy go get one of the cables or the new throttle in a bind when you change grips. I've had it happen myself and have been able to repair it by just loosening the housing and checking it out.
This is a great forum with lots of friendly and knowledgeable members. Stick around and have some fun with us.

Hey jmack, sounds like its binding. Sounds like either the return spring down on your injector housing or a bind in the two cable hookup on the inside end of the throttle grip. remove the screws on your switch housing and inspect where they attach to your grip. I bet when the new grip was installed one or both cables was not hooked up just correctly. May need some grafite or silicone spray in the cable. Before you take anything apart trace the cables just to make sure they are not kinked. The system is pretty straight forward, surprises me that the dealer would not think a slow returning grip is not a problem. If you do take the switch housing apart make sure the grip itself moves freely on the bar (no gunk under it). If it is super cold where you are the new parts on your 06 may just need warming and breaking in. Good luck, let me know what it was.
you could try this,
remove the throtle assembly, disconect the cables, put the throttle back on the handle bars, does it turn smoothly? if no try a little greese or wd40,if its smooth you have eliminated that problem. Next, check that your cables are running free,no tight bends, not trapped anywhere, all ok?.Now lube the cables, I always use wd40 and you should be able to pick up a special clamp that "clamps "on to the end of the cable, you then put the straw from the wd40 in the hole on the clamp, give the can a blast, this will force lube into the cable and also force any dirt ,etc out the other end.
I have been riding & doing my own maintainence on motorcycles for 30years and this always works for me. If you still have problems the cables may be damaged internally, you may have to replace either one or both of them.
