Default SAFTY

A recent fatal accident has given me cause for thought.
&nbsp\\;It was a group of seven fairly experienced riders out enjoying a fine riding day here in southern Maine.
They were traveling down a twisty somewhat hilly stretch of Rt.114 ,a road that follows the shore of Sebago lake.
As the group rounded a corner they came upon a van stopped in their lane waiting to make a left turn.
The van driver was doing nothing wrong. While I am not sure of the order in which they were traveling most or all of the riders went down with one going off the road and being fatally injured. While I hesitate to lay blame , on the surface it certainly looks as if the group of riders were at fault.
My instinct tells me that they were traveling to fast for that stretch of road and that even though they may have been stagerd it would seem they were traveling to closely together.
To all my fellow riders I say learn a lesson from this tragedy.
Be well aware of your surroundings.&nbsp\\; NEVER ride so fast that whats around the next bend becomes an obstacle that you cant avoid.
When riding in a group give each rider the room to take evasive action without endangering the rest of the riders.
Take a rider safety class and practice often. Never let your guard down.
There are enough dangers on the road, we dont need to add to them by riding carelessly or beyond our skill level.

I don't know what other people think. or do.... but I was taught never to drive(or ride) faster than you could see.... seems pretty simple to me.
I know of one biker here in town, who was killed when he struck a tree, some good timin clowns thought would be "fun" to drop across a road.&nbsp\\; Always made me think...
