[FONT="System"]Hey, I'm going to motorcycle training school next month and plan to buy a Sportster 883. Is this a good bike for newbies?

welcome from maryland. yes as far as motor size but I always thought big twin"s were easier to ride because you sit more in the bike while you sit higher on the sportster. my 2 cent's.

Welcome from New Mexico. I like the Dyna family for a good start bike.

First of all, noticed you were from MD. What part? I was born in Balto Co and lived there for 33 years! Now in reply to the HD, that's something to really consider. What kind of price range are ya talkin' about?

Gosh darn! First I get a message from a MD'er (where I was born). Now I receive a reply from someone in Cruces! I lived there from 98 thru 03. Used to deliver mail there. Anyhow...I've never heard of a Dyno before. Can't go over $10k. How much ya talkin?

Sit on all the bikes, in all the showrooms. Go check out different brands. Buy the bike that suits you... heck with the brand. For a first bike, I'd be thinking a 3-5 year old used one. Get some miles under the wheels and figure out what your riding style is. If you're just going to ride to the local hang out, then it doesn't matter WHAT you buy, so long as you look "cool". but if you're touring? then it does matter.
A motorcycle is a tool.... pick the right tool for the job. If you don't know what that job is going to be? then buy generic until you narrow it down

As long as your willing to LEARN, you could start out on any bike you feel confident on.

BTW: Welcome to the forum!
