Hi Jim, A big hearty welcome to you from South Central Virginia. Glad you decided to join in on the fun here!!! Great Forum...Great Folks!!!
I'd say go with the Springer if that's what you have your heart set on. But having said that, if you're asking because it's been awhile since you've ridden and you want to just get something until you are used to being back in the saddle, go with which ever one you can best afford and you are going to feel most comfortable on without stressing over the cost and it getting dinged. You'll get respect because of who you are as a person, not because of what you ride!!! I faced the same decision recently as a new rider and opted to go with a real nice Yamaha V-Star 1100. The decision wasn't actually too hard because the price was fantastic and I just wasn't comfortable buying my Heritage Softail Classic dream bike until I have more experience. But that was just me and what I felt comfortable doing. I don't think any of my true friends here have any less respect for me because of my decision. Whatever your decision, good luck with the course and enjoy the ride!!!!!!
