Hello all. I just brought home a 2005 Sportster 1200 custom and we (Mrs.C. and I) are loving it! 300 miles in two days.
I had a 74 sportster a few years ago and kicked the livin **** outa it for 30 minutes every day before I would decide to take the car.
So I knew I didnt have too many chances left with HD (Ive had several jap bikes over the years) but none would I really trust farther than 20 miles in either direction from town. Not cause they where Japanese, but cause they were cheap!
So I found a 1200 custom with 981 miles on it and she told me to buy it, I did and I am very glad, so far.
There is a off idle backfire about 50% of the time I need to ask the dealership adout. It has a se exaust and stage 1 kit?
Dont know what is up with that but it goes like hell.
I took it out yesterday with a couple buddies on a 100 mile rip thru the mountains, One was a 883 turned 1200 and the other was a fairley modified Dyna lowrider.
I could SMOKE the 883 with a big bore kit and give the Dyna a run for his money!! And both of them where solo while I had Mrs.C. on board (400 lbs tween the 2 of us)
I pulled a Wheely (sp) going from 2nd to 3rd while passing a tractor going about the speed of smell today.
I think once I get the off idle backfire ,pop, sputter, put, pop, fart, wahtever you want to call it...figured out it will be perfect for us.
If I can figure out how to post pictures I will.
Thanks for what apears to be a great sight and I will be back to teach and learn.
