Hey all, just thought I'd sign up now that I'm back in the fold.
I just dropped the hammer on an '88 Sporty, gotta admit it feels good to get back to my roots. I've been away for too long.
I grew up on the back of my Dad's chopped Superglide, and the first bike I ever took on myself was an old ironhead. Good memories, sometimes I long for the "good old days", but maybe I can make some new good days.
I reckon there are some who will give me a cold shoulder for getting a Sporty, but I've always had a soft spot for 'em and it seemed the right bike to get back into riding on. It helped that this one was already set up how I want, apes and forward controls, some chrome goodies, sissy bar and rack for the longer trips, good looking ride. The only thing that threw me off a bit was that it's a belt drive... previous owner must have converted or it's a rebuilt wreck. Either way, I checked it out well before plunking down the cash. It's good to go, and I can't wait to get this baby on the road.
I may swap the apes for a lower rise z bar setup, might just chop it, who knows... I do like the old school stuff.
Anyway, it's damn good to be back where I belong, I gotta feeling I made the right choice.
Ya know, I can't believe I forgot the camera when I went to buy it. Guess I was just a bit excited to finally be getting back to what really matters. Life has a way of interfering with things and clouding the mind... no more for this ol' boy.
I'll be picking it up either tomorrow or thursday, I'll post up some pics then. It's black now (of course), but I always liked blue... I see paint in the near future, heheh.
Oh, and thanks for the welcomes, I can't tell ya how good it feels to be back. I think y'all would understand though, heh.
Yeah, I guess they can be a bit cramped for the bigger guys. I'm just 5'7" in boots though, so it's perfect. Yup, I'm a short guy, and damn glad at least one bike maker keeps that in mind.
