Default New guy here

But have yet to get a Harley. I currently own a 2004 Honda VTX1300. Don't ask me why I bought it cause it is a great running/looking bike. But in the year I've had it, it has come to disappoint. Not from the power, of which it has plenty, but just the whole metric motorcycle thing. I've looked at the Victory's and don't much care for them although I have heard wonderful things about them. I have always wanted a Harley and for some reason, didn't even look into them when I got back from Iraq. I saw a VTX1800 and said I wanted that. Well, i got the 1300 instead. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bike, but it ain't a Harley and boy do I have the itch to finally be on one. I have narrowed it down to the Heritage softail classic. That's the one for me. Now I just have to sell the Honda and convince the wife to let me spend 17+k on a new H-D. I wake up, spend my day riding the Honda and all I think about is the Heritage now. Kinda frustrating me because I want to get one NOW. But I don't have the $$$ for a the downpayment H-D wants to finance me, even though I have excellent credit. I don't even know if you can buy a H-D with no money down.

I know if I try to trade my Honda in, I won't get as much as I owe on it. But I've been paying on it for a year and hope I can get someone to take over payments here on post.

OK....now I'm a rambling wanna-be. Been riding for 20 years now, I am 36 and in the Army.

Go to your bank man, I got mine with 0 down through them with no problem. Dealers sometimes run 0 down specials but I don't know how often or how many... Good luck!

Welcome. My credit union didn't care about MSRP, what I put down or anything. Just that I had a good history with them and that Harley's get good re-sale value. Be REAL careful about that taking over the paayments thing or you could wind up owning 2 loans and 1 bike. Make sure that everything is transferred over. BTW, the VTX1300 is a very nice bike for what it is. Be glad that although you may not have what you ultimately want, you are not riding a piece of junk. Hopefully, it was one of those built in Maryville, OH and you can call it Semi-American. I owned 3 Hondas in the past. The largest a 750 back in the early 80's. None of them ever let me down. They just what they were. Art

Thank you for the warm greets. I am taking it slow and easy on this one. When I finally do get the Harley, it will be a bike I ride for the next 10-15 years so I want to make sure I do the right thing and not put myself in a financial bind doing this. I hear you about the taking over payments thing too. I will be very cautious in my dealings.

Sir, welcome

it will be a bike I ride for the next 10-15 years so I want to make sure I do the right thing
Please, make sure that this "IS" the bike that you want.
10-15 years is a good way of thinking to keep a bike but you ain't never had a Harley, have you??
I will never try to talk you out of a Harley, just for your own good, make sure you are doing what "You" want to do[8D]
Again, welcome to your "New" home

Howdy, welcome to Harley Country. You are facing a dilema that a lot of people face, wanting one thing but having another. Everything will work out for you in time. Enjoy the ride.

Look into used sales too. Prices are somewhat cheaper and down is lower. You can get a 15000 bike for as little as 1500 down.

I think you should do what you're doing...try to sell it, list it in the paper. While you are doing that, go to your credit union, see what they will do for you. Maybe you can work a trade. You'll take a beating when you do that, but if you're patient, you'll be able to sell it on the street for closer to what you owe.

Read the forums a little bit, check out all the bikes, don't be afraid to ride all of them before you make your next purchase.

Welcome to the Forums from the Arizona Highlands. Sounds like you've been bit by the Harley Bug. The bite of this bug is terminal and we may see you standing outside the local shopping mall with a sign that says, "Deadly Harley Disease, will work for downpayment."

I wish you good luck for a speedy transition.
