Thanks for Ur service..

I've read in here for yrs where a lot of bigger guy buys a sporty and within a few months trades them off for a bigger bike. there usually just not enough bike for us bigger boys if U only have one bike.

Does the term,, looks like a gorilla on a football ring a bell.. If U have two bikes as some do, then U could cruise around town on the sporty and another bigger one for trips..

U didn't say how U intend to ride, If U do any trips, U'll need or probably want some storage.
At Ur size, something with bags and a shield is really nice on the open road..
A FB, or Heritage in the softail line would be good, a RK, or SG in the touring bikes looks bad A$$ for U younger riders

I'm 6'2'' 290 and the Heritage will do both, I can stripe her down in 5mins and cruise or leave all the stuff on for when the wife and I ride...But some of the younger riders don't like the leather and spots.. Just find the one that rings U'r bell...

heres some pics of the different way I can make ours look..

Welcome to the Forum and safe riding.

Hello and welcome to HDF from NorCal... First you need to decide what you want to do with your motorcycle... Long trips, commute, bar hop, ride solo or two up etc... That should help you decide whether you need storage on the bike, certain creature comforts etc... Then, if you can, try to test ride as many models as you can... You will need to feel completely comfortable on your bike or you will not want to ride it after you get it... Good luck and let us know what you ultimately decide on...

Thanks for the advice and the well wishes. If everyone is as kind and welcoming to me as you all are then I know I have nothing but blue skies and clear roads in my future.

Hey my friend! I too am new to the forum so welcome from a FNG! I'm in the same boat as you...6'3" at 260 lbs. I felt a like I was in a Miata when I sat on the Sportster. The sales guys at the dealership took a pic and we all started laughing! I decided to go for the Fatboy Lo. What a difference!

BTW - 25 years U.S. Navy (CDR).

You're a full grown boy, and need a full size bike. Go ride the touring bikes. They are surprisingly agile, and very, very comfortable. Road Kings are very versatile, you can ride with a windshield, no windshield, or even add a detachable fairing. 3 bikes in one, and one of the best handling, best riding bikes in the Harley stable.
