Cool Newbie from Ft. Bragg/Fayetteville NC

Hello, my name is Patty and I am a backseat driver. lol. I normally ride on the back of my husband's 09 SG. Our local dealer had an open house and we went and I actually sat on some motorcycles. I saw one that was pretty with rhinestone. ohhhh, (sorry, did I mention I like bling???) Well anyway, I talked to people who had a trike and just getting information for that infamous day that by the grace of GOD, I would actually be riding alongside my husband.

Mother's Day we got a call from the HD Dealer stating we won a 2010 sportster 883 XL. OMFG! I was screaming like I won the Powerball. We went to pick up the bike with the intention on selling it.

When I sat on the bike, I realized that it was just my size. I smiled at my husband and said, hey this is my bike. He said ok, but you have to learn how to ride.

What made me shout that this was my bike was beyond me. Maybe I was caught up in a dream of 10 yrs down the road. Well, we put that lovely blue bike on the back of the Avalanche and bought it home. Tuesday, I was looking at the rider's course book trying to familiarize myself with the gears. Well, next thing I knew I was out the garage, but stalled at the top of the driveway. My husband shows up smiling with the biggest grin on his face. He was excited that I actually TOUCHED THE THING!!! I said, I am stuck. We laughed and he went in the house to change his clothes. He came back outside and asked my daughter where I was and she pointed down the street. I was actually almost at the other end of the cul de sac. What am I THINKING? Since I never rode a motorcycle or driven a stick, I had no idea how to change gears or get that sucker back up the street. I took a deep breath and low and behold I made it back home, down the driveway and to the door. I will do better next time. The next day he came home and I was riding past him down the street. OMG!!! Did I tell you that I am scared to death of motorcycles???? Go figure..

I will now be taking the safety class, but still a little nervous because once I stop the bike, it shuts off and I can't remember what the hell to do to get it started again. lol You think they will give me a permit for just showing up????
