Masshole on board!
I am new to the Forum, so I figured I would introduce myself and apologize for any politically incorrect things I may say in the future!
I am a life long biker, but a RE-born Harley owner. I bought my first Harley in 1975 fresh out of High School. It was a Black FL 1200 Electra Glide. 70-75 Cu In? It was totally fringed out with widest white wall tires you had ever seen! Road from MA to FL 4 times. I loved that ride as much as the ladies did! I'll post pictures when I can figure out how.
Believe it or not, I sold the Electra Glide to buy an engagement ring?? Prior to that growing up in MA I could only afford dirt bikes...and my rich buddies road bikes. Although, once married, I caught the bug again...got a 2nd job and bought my first Goldwing Aspencade. The insurance company bought me my 2nd GW after it was stolen. Pretty nice bike. Nice ride and all, but I just could not get the same feeling out of it as my Electra Glide. For a short stint in the late 80's I owned a BMW R100T because I thought I looked wealthy riding it. Big Hat No Cattle...if you know what I mean. Again, solid bike...just wasnt the same.
In 82, I bought my first new bike, 82 Heritage Classic. Sorry to all of you softail riders...but in the 9 years I owned it I only put on 8000 miles. Just could not find the time to ride it. I put a fortune into the bike thinking that may do it. She looked damn good...but she just was not calling out my name. I recently sold the Heritage just after the New Year thinking that I am rounding the corner near retirement and that my riding days were done.
This past Feb, fate had it that I met a friend of a friend. This poor bastard was selling everything to keep from going bankrupt. He made me a stupid offer on his 08 Electra Glide Custom. The bike only had 5k miles on her and was Black. I took one look at the Electra Glide medallion on the fender and paid the man before he changed his mind. I know you are all gonna say that there is almost 40 years of technological changes between my first FL and my new FLHTC. But it was the same ride or matbe just the same feeling. Anyway, on the first ride, I knew I was would rack up some big miles on this machine!
Since 2/28, I have logged almost 7000 miles. It took me almost 9 years to do the same mileage on my Heritage. I do not expect change her much beyond stock but, I do expect to be asking some questions about some simple upgrades and mods from my fellow forum posters.
More later
Safe ride!
