It's not really that one bike is better for the beginner... Both are very manageable. The deluxe has a very low seat and depending on how short you are you probably won't need to lower the bike. I had a 07 road king classic and I'm only 5'7.5". The new touring bikes have wider rear tires which in turn make us guys with short inseams have problems with the stock height. I lowered my new limited by about an inch front and back and it is very manageable for me.

That said said the king is meant to rack up those trip miles and will be more comfortable than the deluxe. You will also scrape like a biatch in turns on the deluxe.
