Hey I'm obviously new to this forum. I don't currently own a bike but have wanted a Harley for as long as I can remember. I've ridden dirt bikes growing up so while not the same I'm comfortable on a bike. I really like the Heritage Softail and have been doing my homework on them. Maybe this is not the right place to ask but is there a year to avoid? I'm seriously looking at a bone stock 2002 Heritage wth 41,000 miles listed for $8500. Thanks for any advice and sorry if I've posted in the wrong spot.
Welcome .... the Heritage is a good bike. Be aware that around the mileage that the bike you are looking at has they can ( I stress "can" ) need cam chain tensioners! Something to consider. Do a search on our site for more info.
I see there's a lot of MI guys here. Welcome to the forum.
As for the Heritage, they are a low riding bike. I traveled down the Gulf Blvd in Fla on a 2000 and found it comfortable and responsive. Handling was very natural feeling. Good place to start.
I started on trail bikes too. F-8 Kaw and really like off roading on a bike. Not so much on my Tour Glide.
Here's a thought, you may want to rent some of the available bikes from a Harley Dealer. Here In Mi I like the 45th Parallel in Grayling. You're already up north and heading out from there means the adventure starts right away.
