Back in the saddle... It's been a while.
The magical moment finally came when I got my dream bike... A used 1980 Harley XLH. Black and beautiful... I was on top of the world. just as soon as I got her polished and fixed up just the way I knew she liked... I was injured while on deployment with the U.S. Navy. I served a total of 13 years before being medically discharged in '96. My injury was the beginning of a 20 year battle to keep all my limbs and remain mobile. I basically lost everything (including my bike, which I couldn't ride after the initial injury).
Since then I have had 2 back surgeries to repair nerves, multiple bone grafts, and 5 different hip replacement surgeries. In december of 2009 I had a "make it or break it" spinal fusion that was going to be either a major success or a total failure - no middle ground.
I am sharing my story not because I am seeking sympathy, but because I want to share my Victory and happiness with you all.
At the beginning of this month (April 11) I got my Harley back - this time it is a 2005 heritage softail twin cam 88 - (way better than the XLH ever was
I am riding again, I am not in a wheelchair as predicted, and I am living life to the full.
Dreams do come true.
