Hello,
My name is Jason and I just ran across this HD form and thought I would join to learn a little more before I purchase my first ever motorcycle. I have a crazed love affair with the new 2011 Street Glide. I have never owned or even rode a motorcycle in the past. I'm 34 yrs young and have always been a Mopar Gear head with a few hot rods to boot. Recently my wife and I have been talking about how cool it would be to go on some road trips with a Harley. I have always liked the single seated bikes like bobbers, choppers, etc. but really never thought twice about buying one. I'm active duty Coast Guard and will be taking a mandatory motorcycle safety course before I go any further with the purchasing process. If I like riding in the course and I get accepted to Officer Candidate School in the next few weeks then I will have to ok to buy.
I love the look of the 21" wheel in the front and 18" rear. I like the clean less is better look on my cars and I'm thinking the same for a bike, although I see a lot of cool HD's with a bunch of chrome that looks good too. I have a ton to learn about riding, safety, and overall bike awareness, not to mention who to purchase aftermarket parts from, etc. lol
Welcome from Vancouver Canada. The streetglide is a great bike and you will enjoy it for two up riding. get the King Tour pack and Lower vented fairing ( that's what I did, before selling it). .. or go with a Ultra Classic and remove the windshield put the shorty windshield and there you have it. It's much less to go with the Ultra if you want all the touring features. Ride Safe and good luck on your upcoming purchase.
In your opinion do you think it's better to just buy new or try and find a used one? I'm sure with in the 1st few months I will change out wheels and tires, front fender and do a complete exhaust.
Welcome aboard from New York. I'd recommend after you complete the safety course to go to a demo days and try different bikes. Used might be your best bet since you are brand new then you can see what you want and the type of driving you do.
