Bill from central NC here checking in with my first post. Been and checked out the FAQ's so with a little luck I won't shoot myself in the courting gear right off the bat.
Been riding since the early 1970's been on the road since 1975. Got my first HD in 1980, a beautiful blue 80" FXEF. Worst freaking piece of machinery that I have ever owned. Wound up trading it even up in 1982 for a 60 FL that I still own to this day.
Had 79 FLH for a while that was a 74 incher and that was a pretty good old Shovel. Switched up and put about 8 years in on a BMW R90s then picked up a 94 FLHTC in 97. That bike was the finest piece of machinery that I have ever owned.
Got stupid in 2008 and traded it in. It had almost 130K on it and the forks/neck bearings needed rebuilding and the whole wiring harness was going to need to be replaced, not to mention a new mill wasn't that far away.
So anyway, I picked up a low mileage 2007 FLHTCI. Wish I had that one to do over again. Apparently the bean counters are in charge of how bikes get built again. As a matter of fact, my search for a upgraded main drive gear bearing is what led me here.
Kinda chapped my cheeks to have to gut the transmission on a bike with 43K on it but on the bright side at least it wasn't the flywheels like on my buddy's bike of the same year. The only things that I reused on that build was the case halves and the cylinder heads........
