Been doing some research prior to buying an FLHX. Pretty much decided I want the 103 and ABS (power pack for 2011). To me it's looking like there is not a lot of difference between the two years other than all the 12's are 103 and you can get the 96 or 103 on the 11's.
Anybody know any major differences? Leaning towards the 11 for getting a better deal but want to make sure I'm not missing out that "gotta have it" advantage to a 12.
Depends on what you want. If you're not worried about the oil cooler, ABS, security, or the 103". I'd go with the 2011 for a better deal. Add a set of decent cams for a couple of hundred bucks and it will outrun the stock 103" anyway. But that's just me.
I went looking for a deal on a 11 model and the local dealers were sold out. Ended up buying a 12 for a couple hundred under MSRP. I love the bike, don't regret buying it.
The oil cooler does seem like a good idea and I do want the ABS. Don't really need the extra security.
I may be wrong...was thinking the 11's have ABS but no oil cooler?
I've seen a couple 11's for sale on-line here and there, definitely not a bunch. Want to go with black...thought I wanted vivid but the denim is definitely growing on.
I would recommend you get the 103, either the 11 or 12. If you decide to add CAMS later you have the bigger motor, cams will really make the 103 fun. The 11 or 12 103s have the oil cooler. Yes you can get ABS on both years.
I love my denim black.

Greetings & welcome to the madness. As far as '11 vs. '12 FLHX - I'd go w/best deal. Both bikes (cosmetically) are identical...oil cooler not really necessary (unless you plan ride in Sahara Desert). As far as 103 motor - you can add cams to 96 & make it =/+ to any 103 so..again, look around & see where you can find/negotiate the best bang for your buck.
Once you get the bike - first things to junk are the stock windshield, exhaust & get your seat modified (MCC), or changed. This will make riding more comfy...good luck w/the search.
