Default Lurker makes the jump

Hello everyone!!

first, i would like to thank everyone who posts such useful information as found in all the forums. i spent about a week here reading alot of stuff that helped me in my decision on what to purchase.

i've been riding cycles for many years and the past 10 on several Suzuki Intruders which i was very happy with but, i always wanted a Harley.

so now, i have one.... an 05 FXDI (the poor man's big twin ... vivid black.

if you want to see a pic, see my page here

i have a pretty good story about my shopping experience if you would like to read it...

To give you some history, I’m not new to buying motorcycles as I’ve had several Suzuki’s over the past 10 years. I wanted to buy a Harley long ago but I was very turned off by the way I was treated by the dealers in my area (Harford County, Maryland).

Several months ago I started shopping for another motorcycle. Again, I went to the dealers in my area thinking that the staff would have changed and that I could finally get my Harley. The sales staff had changed and they were more personable but they had no bikes to speak of. And, when I was going to settle for one, I was put off by them charging for every little thing and wouldn’t even throw in a t-shirt.

Needless to say, I walked out.

Just as I was about to head back to the Suzuki dealer, I learned of Lancaster Harley from a friend of mine and thought I would check it out. I stopped by on a rainy Saturday morning and although I didn’t talk to anyone, I listened to some of the conversations going on and liked what I was hearing.

I kept an eye on the Lancaster HD website (which is very well done by the way), and when the bike I liked showed up, I called and spoke to a sales person. I liked how he sounded and told him I was coming up that evening to buy it.

I don’t know if he believed me or not (he says he did), I don’t know… but I showed up about 6 p.m.

He then told me the bike was sold…. Oh well…. So I bought a new one.

The sales person was very good with me. He really knew the options when it comes to financing and know the bikes he sells.

It took me a little while to think about it and said “I’ll take it” about 10 minutes before closing. The sales person didn’t try to rush things and stayed late doing the paper work and helping me pick out the $1,000 of accessories. I walked out the door about 8:30 and the last thing that was said to me (by a son of one of the employees) was “have a good night, sir” as he let me out of the door.

My expectations were met and exceeded at every point.... free t-shirt- they gave me 2.... first service- free.... a break on some accessories- dealer promotion of $1000 of stuff for buying a Dyna.... a deal on a new helmet- the day you take delivery you get 15% off every thing in the store.

In closing, I was treated with the utmost respect by all the staff of Lancaster HD during my visit. My thanks go to all I have encountered there for their help either directly or indirectly, and most of all to the sales people.

I can’t grade everything about Lancaster HD until I get to experience the service department but the sales team gets an A+!

i wrote that in a letter and hand delivered it to the general manager of Lancaster HD. his thanks was to personally give me the orientation to the bike plus he took me all over the dealership and introducing me to the staff.

i was treated like i belonged there. i go back one a week and every time i'm greeted by name.

i had made the right choice.

thanks for reading my story

Glad you found us. Your experience at the second dealership sounds like a good one, and I'm glad it worked out for you. Hope you enjoy that ride...now that mods can begin!

Welcome from IL. Sounds like you found a very good dealer and I know you have a great bike, because I have the same model in the same color. If the sales staff and gen mgr are like that, the service dept prolly will be also. Yes, it is nice to walk in and be called by name. Expensive, but nice. Glad to have you join us, Art

Glenn

Welcome to the forum and that's a real nice story you have there. it's always nice to walk away without the feeling of being "had". Problem is , it doesn't happen often enough with these dealers.

Good luck with the new bike.

Good luck on the new sled, I am sure you are going to love it. Nice story too, I had a similar experience with local Harley dealers and ended up buying where I was treated with respect, at Harley Davidson of Bergen County in NJ. I don't want, or expect, to have my a** kissed, just treat me fairly and decently. I was introduced to all the staff, given a few percs, just a nice experience. I guess if it wasn't for the poor dealerships maybe we wouldn't appreciate the good guys. You have a real good looking bike there, welcome aboard.

Bill

Welcome to the forum, nice looking bike! Glad you had a good experiance at the one dealership. Things were awful at one of my dealerships years ago, since then it has been sold, and is 100 times better. (although I did not buy my bike there, I do buy my parts there).
CONGRATS!
