Hello from North FL
Current ride is a 1998 FLHPI but at some point I'll get around to putting my 59 Ironhead chop back together (need new right-side case or a ton of machine work).
Bought the bike on 9/11/10 after going without a running ride for years, gave up my 59 when I joined the Navy and after I got out, and we returned to the states (wife was still in) I bought the 59 back from my brother. Too many repairs needed, not enough money, etc. so it never saw the road again (yet). Went car shopping for the wife and the dealer had a couple bikes on the floor some employees were selling. Sat on one and had to have it. Wife told me to go for it, but they wouldn't cooperate on price. Few hours later, I stopped off at the stealership and things lined up after intense negotiations (I walked out twice and then wound up hanging up on them 5 times till they surrendered to my will
)Lots of work was needed, done tons already, brake lines, electrical repairs, pipes... entire new valvetrain, etc, so not all small things. The last round with the EFI, which I've never been happy with, was the last straw. Ordered a CV from eBay and a handful of parts from a local indie. Waiting on the points and Pingel adapter now, then I'll be back on the road.
Next project is something custom with the gauges, I'll be posting some questions on that before too long, as this is my first foray into the electronic side of things.
The 59 was gennie, kick, magneto with an $&$, no battery and only headlight and brake light. I can't go quite that far with this one, but carb and points are a good start, probably add a kick conversion this spring so the next time the battery craps out I can still get up and going.
Think that's more than enough for now, could write all day, or until the boss walks in, but doubt many want to read all day
