Ranger73 - great point about organized rides. New rider beware! Hand-picked riding buddies are my absolute preference when not riding solo.

Welcome, stay alert, they don't see you. Don't brake while turning, look for your exit point in turns. Keep distance. Think SMOOTH in your mind. It will help with starts, stops, shifting, etc... Cruise it, don't take chances, enjoy!!!!!!

Welcome from Indiana. Slow down at intersections until eye contact is made with cars getting ready to pull out (This has saved me) and stay the heck away from tractor trailers. Also in early spring watch out for road cinders if you live in a area that gets snow. I have seen guys go down hard because of that.
