Default First Post, first bike, first questions. :D

Hello All,

Brand new "biker" here. Only "experience" is the MSF course and going over the bars over 25 years ago. LOL

Got my new girl home. Now what? haha

Looking to get to know her, similar to how I was introduced to the little bike (well smaller than the girl I just got, which is also quite small) in the course. Any advice on how not to kill myself while I learn what she likes and doesn't like?
Any thoughts at all would be highly appreciated. (I know from lurking here and elsewhere that she is maybe not the best "starter", but I could not resist her beauty. )

2011 XL883 by the way.

Tom

1st - Welcome aboard
2nd - While a Sportster is the smallest Harley IT IS NOT A SMALL BIKE!

Never ride faster than your angel can fly! Assume the worst - it can happen! Always ride with an "out" - you're gonna need em! Your most dangerous point will be when you get "comfortable" - so don't! Beyond these points, enjoy!

Welcome,

Remember that the moment you get on your bike everyone is trying to kill you so ride accordingly.

Welcome to the forum. You're already ahead of the game, having taken the MSF course. Ride like you're invisible. Try to spend time riding less-congested roads at first, to get a better feel for your bike. Practice some panic stops. Beware of "clag" and oil in the middle of the lane and along the roadside - especially in corners. Approach left-hand turning cages like they're the enemy. Oh yeah, did I say ride like you're invisible?

Well, I was a new rider last year. Took the MSF course. Then rode her around the neighbor hood for 2 weeks before taking her onto the "real streets" with traffic. Practice all you learned in the course. Ride with a friend. Stay away from organised rides (they're not).
Ride safe, Have fun, Be careful. The Cagers ARE out to get you.
