I recently purchased my first Harley. It is a 1979 ironhead xlh 1000. I have owned many bikes mainly shadows and a few rockets. I am very excited to finally have a Harley though! Anyways I went to Columbus Ohio and bought this for 1500$!! Has a nice rebuilt engine, drag pipes, S&S carb etc. lots of chrome.
Now when I bought it the guy told me he thinks it needs the timing fixed or the carb rejetted. Well I rode it all the way home about a 200 mile trip and the only thing I noticed is if I has it too quickly it will hesitate and want to stall out. If I roll smoothly through the throttle it is fine.
Well last night I went to start it and it didn't want to start. Sounded really weak when it was turning over, eventually I got it started and it ran perfectly fine. About 20 minutes into the ride the bike just completely shut down while I was doing 65 on the highway!! Pulled over and started it back up easily, rode down the road another 10 minutes or so and it did the same thing.... But now I can't get it started. Drained the battery trying to get it to turn over. As of now I have the battery charging. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
