Importing HD from USA
I see some good deals on cycle trader.com. But, how can I verify the authEncity of the ad from private posting?
Again I have heard that there are few mechanics in US who go and check the quality of the bike and send an assessment. Do you know any websites the list reliable mechanics at a nominal price?
Again do you know any good shipping companies that can take cre of Canadian customs as well? Again at a nominal price.
That seems wrong to me
Do you have dealers there?
Maybe thats why?
Anyway that sucks, but you could buy a used one?
Because you can buy a left over 2011 at a dealer and that would be used, no miles factory everything etc..
Would that work for you?
Either way I would buy one privately anyway, you will get a better deal if you look carefully and find a deal
Private sellers are going to a lot more open to dealing as they need the cash, a dealership, well thats a lot different.
So maybe look around for the bike you want with less than 5k miles on they are out there.
I know a guy in Texas who buys salvages, some are theft returns, not all accidents puts them back together beautifully and then has them inspected so you can title it and reg it in your state/country and you can some great bikes at very good prices.
He sold a 2011 police Road King a while back for 11k$, a 2007 road king classic just sold for 7600 etc.. so thats a good deal and his bikes are mint.
Anyway good luck in your search, use the net talk to sellers over the border find a couple you think you do well with and then pay a visit and check it out in person, if you have cash to wave in their faces you can probably get a heavy discount, cash talks.
Good luck

Forget about chrome and add ons, think motor trans, tire wear, fluid levels, service records, etc..
Look closely at the motor for leaks at the seals or signs that there were leaks or new gaskets installed, definitely drive it or have the owner drive it so you can hear and feel it shift and stuff.see if you can find out where the bike originated from and contact that dealer for more info if you have the vin.
Test more than 2 so you have a point of reference, test drive a few new ones near your home and then test a couple used bikes too, get a feel for what to expect, then go out and test some for sale bikes, if you arent sure then think about getting a mechanic out with you.
wouldnt hurt to look at a service manual to get some tips on things to look out for and service points and all. the more info you have the better for you when you are buying, and if you just dont feel good about it trust the seller, move on, there are way to many great bikes for sale to get stuck with a problem child one.
There are ways.
