Default Basic tools for 2003 883

Hi all. New to the forum.
Wondering if anyone can give me any advise as to what basic tools I need for a do it yourselfer?
Should I just go to Harley and buck up the price of one of those kits? I know piecing thing together adds up to a lot of $$$. And even though it might be expensive at Harley at least I get what I only need.
Any advise?
Thanks.

I'm pretty new to owning an HD but I've worked on my own metric bikes for years. When I got my FLSTC the only things I found myself needing that I didn't already have were sets of Torx and twelve-point sockets. 90% of your wrench-turning needs will be fulfilled by

1) SAE socket set, 3/8" drive
2) SAE Box end wrench set (with 2-3 each of common sizes like 1/2" )
2) Screwdriver set
3) Torx sockets
4) SAE Allen wrenches
5) twelve-point socket set
6) oil filter wrench
7) container blue thread-lock
8) grease
9) cordless drill/screwdriver
10) Torque wrench (preferably same drive as most of your sockets)

you'll pick up other specialty tools as you work on different parts of the bike: wire cutters, soldering iron, brake bleeder, bearing pullers, etc.

Welcome, seems like you got some good tool tips in the first post. I don't do a ton of DIY work, but I find that my tools work for anything I have needed to do, without paying big money for HD brand tool sets.
