Default Hit and Run!

Hello all! I am new to the HD Forum but I already love it! I am hoping for some information. I got bumped by a driver (hit and run) on Sunday 12-01-12. It was just enough to cause me to lay my bike on its side. My first Harley acctually (08 Rocker C). Though my scrapes and cuts are minor and will heal my bike suffered a hit on the tank, broken right turn signal, broken head light. I’m sure the cost will be more than my deductable to repair?? I’ve never had to have a bike repaired. Both dealers in my area claim "just drop if off" and they will handle everything. Should I even make a claim? Is there a better more cost effective way to reapir it?? Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated??
Thanks again!! And I love the forum!!

Sorry to hear of your accident.

You will be surprised how quickly these repairs can and will add up. Unless you have an extremely high deductible the costs will most exceed that deductible.

Get it to a dealer. Most will do an evaluation and provide an estimate at little to no cost.

You could have the dealer do the work or have the insurance company write you a check and do the work yourself like many here on this forum, myself included have done.

You can most likely do the repairs with the exception of the paint with the help of a repair manual and a buddy or two with some wrenching experience.

Good luck with either route you take but I'd let a dealer at least do the estimate as they will know what to look for and most likely catch things you might overlook. If they think they have a chance of doing the work they will definitely have the incentive to look for everything in need of repair or replacement.

Primo,
Thank you for the advice I think I will let the dealer handle it in the end.
And thanks to everyone for the welcome!
