I am a young lady and I have always wanted a motorcycle. I was talked out of a bike when I was 18. Well, I have matured a lot since then and I am going to do what I want to do! I am going to take a motorcycle course, due to my inexperience. I went to other forums suggesting that a Harley is not the proper choice for beginners. I want a Harley anyway and I am confidant I will find the right bike for me. I am glad to be a member and can't wait to ride!
Welcome! It is true that Harley doesn't make "beginners" bikes, but don't let that stop you. I learned on a very top heavy Sportster 1200 at age 50. Saved me the trouble of outgrowing a smaller bike in the first year. If you do decide to go with a smaller bike from another maker, just be prepared to trade up sooner than later.
Harley is a fine Beginners Bike. Get a used Sportster and when you are comfortable find what you like.
I would suggest try out lots of different bikes and see what you feel good on.
That's it!

First - welcome to the Forum.
Second, he's absolutely right. A used Sportster is a great starter bike. Don't listen to anyone who says you can't start on a Harley. You're doing the right thing by taking a motorcycle course.
Good luck with the course and with finding your first ride.
