Hi All,
I'm looking for any & all tips for beginner riders. I recently went from passenger to rider and any thoughts would be helpful. My first mistake, (after only my 3rd time on my bike) I took a minor spill because I came to a stop and my wheel was not straight. No injury to me, but you should see the other guy. Thank god for engine guards....
I appreciate all the help I can get. MSF course next weekend! So excited!!
Don't fall down! ok done with the smart *** answer, couldnt resist.
as previous poster said take a msf course , best thing going , after that find a safe place and practice, big parking lot till your comfortable starting and stopping the bike practice what was on the msf course till totally comfortable and relaxed doing it. then start riding away from heavy traffic at first, also suggest at most a experienced rider willing to help you and ride at your level , no big group rides for a bit. and I really honestly think the ride like a pro videos including surviving the mean streets are a great thing for new riders to see. And not wanting to start a big debate ,( and am pro choice on helmets) , but start with a helmet especially when practicing the slow speed stuff and untill you are experienced and confident , then make a choice. but when learning you may drop a bike probably drop a bike and a helmet work very well for low speed stuff like that.
First piece of advice - stay off your bike until you finish the course. Make all the mistakes you're going to make while you learn - on their bike. Pay attention in class and practice like crazy on the road course. THAT'S the place to mess up. When you're done with the class you'll be a much better rider, guaranteed.
