New From Houston...Question on Bike Choices...Help Please.
- Before you think about siting on a bike, get in the Rider's Edge Course. If you end up buying a bike from the dealer, they will usually give you the money back when you get the bike.
- Find some rides to demo. I know first time riders that have gone the Sportster route, and other's who have gotten a bagger as their first. It depends on what fits you best.
- When you find the bike you like, Harley can fit it to you. So if you are a big guy 6'2" to a small guy 5'5" they can get the bike to be comfortable with you.
- Get a helmet.
- When you get the bike, ease into it and continue rider's education. Look into BRC2 (you get to use your own bike to get a feel for it in a closed environment) and advanced rider's courses.
- Ride it, enjoy it, and make it yours.
Hope this helps, looking forward to seeing you on the forums, and what you finally got.
I apologize for asking a question in this section.
I absolutely would not think of buying a bike without taking and passing that course at the Dealer. Just not a safe thing, I think, especially for someone like me that has a couple minor physical issues.
I am going to go and nose around in the next couple of days at the local shop and see what the different models look like and feel like when I sit on them.
Thanks again everyone for the welcome.

Are you looking for comfort? Windshield, Radio, Passenger? I've owned a Road King, Roadglide, Ultra and a Heritage and currently ride a Streetglide. They were all great bikes with things I enjoyed and things I didn't. To me I ride about 90% of my time with my wife so her comfort level is paramount. My must haves. Comfortable seat, windshield, radio. Like others have said. Take the course and go to a dealer and sit on a few.
