Agree with the above, but you are new.... So, here is what I would tell you.
  1. Before you think about siting on a bike, get in the Rider's Edge Course. If you end up buying a bike from the dealer, they will usually give you the money back when you get the bike.
  2. Find some rides to demo. I know first time riders that have gone the Sportster route, and other's who have gotten a bagger as their first. It depends on what fits you best.
  3. When you find the bike you like, Harley can fit it to you. So if you are a big guy 6'2" to a small guy 5'5" they can get the bike to be comfortable with you.
  4. Get a helmet.
  5. When you get the bike, ease into it and continue rider's education. Look into BRC2 (you get to use your own bike to get a feel for it in a closed environment) and advanced rider's courses.
  6. Ride it, enjoy it, and make it yours.

Hope this helps, looking forward to seeing you on the forums, and what you finally got.

Thank you all for your welcome.

I apologize for asking a question in this section.

I absolutely would not think of buying a bike without taking and passing that course at the Dealer. Just not a safe thing, I think, especially for someone like me that has a couple minor physical issues.

I am going to go and nose around in the next couple of days at the local shop and see what the different models look like and feel like when I sit on them.

Thanks again everyone for the welcome.

Welcome... Also from Houston (Deer Park) to be exact. Your choice is going to depend on what kind of riding you want to do. Bar hoping, Touring.

Are you looking for comfort? Windshield, Radio, Passenger? I've owned a Road King, Roadglide, Ultra and a Heritage and currently ride a Streetglide. They were all great bikes with things I enjoyed and things I didn't. To me I ride about 90% of my time with my wife so her comfort level is paramount. My must haves. Comfortable seat, windshield, radio. Like others have said. Take the course and go to a dealer and sit on a few.
