New From Houston...Question on Bike Choices...Help Please.
Hey all,
I've never ridden a Harley and haven't done much riding in the past 10 years or so. At this stage in my life I find myself really craving the experience of sitting on a Harley and riding out in the country surrounding Houston and enjoying the experience.
I haven't put too much thought into it yet, but at some point in the next 6 months I am going to be making a choice and riding some of the bikes to see what I like best and would fit me and my budget.
Before that, however, I would like to get some pointers and advice from you guys and what I might want to concentrate my efforts on.
How about this scenario.....
Lets say you have a great friend that has thought about getting a bike and going riding with you sometimes, but has never done it. One Saturday after you come back from a ride, your buddy comes over with a 6-pack and sits in your garage to share it with you. He then tells you of his desire to finally get a bike and would like to know what YOU would recommend that he should check out. You know he is about 15 years from riding and will have to take a safety course before he gets his bike.
What HD models would you tell him would be great for him to start his search with? What models would not be too much to handle for a novice? Are there models that you would absolutely caution him to avoid no matter how much he might want it because of his inexperience and knowledge of the road and how a HD handles?
I'd like to hear what your thoughts are and if some HD models are better left to those that have experience and can ride. Your recommendations don't necessarily have to be SPORTSTERS, you can also recommend DYNA's and Softails.
Thank you for your time and this place is awesome. I LOVE the picture galleries.
Only you can make the decision on what fits you the best. I am a large man 6'4" & 250 lbs. and the touring bikes fit me the best. But, I do have a Heritage that I ride from time to time.
