Default new owner with help needed

Hello from Wimberley Texas (close to Austin). I’m a proud owner of a Black and White 06 Deluxe. Picked it up on Saturday and have a little over 500 miles on it now. I’ve been a rider for a long time but did not own a Harley. The bike is currently stock but can not wait until the 1000 mile service to get my accessories installed. I think the most important thing for me to do now is get the bike a little more comfortable for me, I’m 6’1.
With that being said I’m on the hunt for a new seat. There’s a shop real close by that does the “Polly Pan”. I’m assuming they can make me a custom pan and I can get it covered. What’s your consensus about this?
I’ve also read about the riser being changed or modified. I will do this also.
One more question. I’m hearing/reading different things about Stage I. Part of my 1000 miles service I will be getting the Stage I installed with the Long Shots. My question is do I do the HD down load or the race tune at this time? I don’t know. If I don’t go the race tuner route, will the motor damage in anyway by it running lean? One dealer says download, one dealer says race tune, one old timer says it doesn’t matter, one says it does matter. Please help.
I have enjoyed the ride. Double thumbs up to everyone!
Charles

Hey Charles. Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few Texas folk on the forum here. I'm out in Midland, Harleyrulz is down in Boerne, several guys hail from Houston and beyond. If I remember right, there's a pretty nice rally in Wimberly every year. Sorry, I don't have any answers to your questions other than maybe putting an engine guard and extended reach highway pegs on the bike. I'm sure there'll be someone that will help you with other ideas.

hi charles
welcome to the forum from so fla....send some pics of that bike we love pics here... the stealer that wants you to buy the race tuner is exactly that a "STEALER" the down load should work just fine...and if it doesnt the have an efi tuner thats half the price of the race tuner that will definately do the job...as far as your seat..im only 5'9" and dont have that problem...lol

Hit the SEARCH button at the top of the page and do a search on Stage 1 and ECM, you'll find a wealth of information on the subject.

Post a pic of your ride when you get the chance.

Welcome from IL. I was at my dealer's yesterday and the parts/service people told me that they don't have the pipes or the EFI download yet that are compatible w/ the new EPA regs. The new pipes will have the catalytic converter and they think the download will be leaner. Seemed to me like the thing to do with the '06's would be to buy your own pipes, air cleaner kit and either a Power Commander or SERT and do the work yourself. Seems as though all of the motorcycle dealerships and mechanics are now under very similar rules to Calif,
You might want to clarify exactly w/ your dealer what they can do and what parts they have in stock. Art
