Intro / General performance questions
Here it goes:
I'm Gary Ray "Deacon" Brinson. They call me Deacon, because.... Well, I'm a Deacon. I got my first motorbike when I was eight. Dad had just returned from his third tour with 5th SFG, FROM Vietnam. It was a Suzuki MT-50, Trailhopper. Google it, they are cool little bikes. I have three I'm restoring. From there, I sold it, after four years and got a ScatCat three-Wheeler. Kept that a very short time. All my friends had bikes and they were all faster than mine. So, just after turning the ripe old age of 11, my Green Beret dad brought home a 1972 Honda MT-250 Elsinor!!! Holly Crap, that was a big bike for an 11 year old! I could only ride it, every other week, because that's how long it took my ankle to heal after the kick-starter kicked back and sprang my ankle! The good news was every other week, I was the fastest of all my friends! Flash forward many, many years and I'm retiring from the Army and no longer an owner of Honda's. Rode a Road King for many years and thought it was the perfect bike, even if it didn't have a stereo. Then, on a whim, I test rode an 08 Road Glide, the one I bought after I test rode it!! Let me just say for the record, If you've never ridden a Road Glide and you don't have the money to buy another Harley, Do Not test one out! You will have to buy one, immediately! There is nothing like them in Harley World that handles as well. Of course, I've never ridden a V-Rod and I think they look like fun on the twisty turnies! Fast forward again, hit play and we're at the spot, two years back where I joined the Virginia Patriot Guard Riders! I can't say I love doing the missions, but I can say, they are the most honorable thing I've ever done in my life. If your a member and have never done a mission at Arlington National Cemetery, make plans to come do one. It's very important to me that we honor our Vets, and nobody does that like the PGR! I ride a lot, rain, shine, hot and cold! I did just over 21k miles last year and those were after having FIVE major back surgeries in the last six years. I'm doing a 13 state run in June with another Army buddy and want to get my bike a little more faster and a little more performance than the stock bike it is! Oh, other intro stuff, I'm married and this July 21st will make 30 Great Years (210 in dog years)! We attend the same little Baptist church we were married in and in 2005, I was Ordained to serve as a Deacon, hence, the handle. I have two sons, a 25 year old and a 20 year old. Between the three of us, we have eight motorcycles! My oldest son is a forth generation soldier and my youngest works in a warehouse making a whole lot more than a 20-year old should.
That's me in a nutshell.
So, my first forum question is simple, I've talked to the guys at the dealership and they always tell me the most expensive way to soup up the bike. My question, what is the best starting point? What are the things I can buy and do myself, to basically, let me pop a wheelie and go fast..er!
I look forward to the replies and I will say, Thank You in Advance!
