Default Question about Road King rear wheel

Hey there

I'm wanting to put a 18x4.25 rear wheel on my 2006 Road King. For some reason the wheel I want lists the 2008 Road King as the only compatible year. Can anyone tell me is there any difference between the pulley or otherwise between the 2006 and 2008? Thanks!

The 06 uses a STD pulley while the 08 uses a "Cush Drive" (IDS-Isolated Drive System), but it's a Bolt-on so that doesn't make a difference

While other features could make fitting "08 only" technically true, it wouldn't be good business sense. You can make a rear wheel that fits 2000-07 easily fit an 08, but you can't fit a 08-only wheel (if someone made that) on a 2000-07 without changing/modifying some other parts.

Do you have a link for that wheel?

OK makes sense thanks. Guess I'll need to find a different wheel.

Here is the wheel I'm looking at on Ebay.

Somethings "Fishy"

...the picture shown wouldn't be the correct wheel (that happens), but more importantly, the Part# doesn't show within Drag Specialties system... and for $214.95?...huh

There are many of the same wheel on Ebay. I'm looking at this one because it matches the 21" front I just threw on there which now makes my rear wheel look like a POS. This one's several hundred less than the next one. Anyways here's the wheel on the Drag Specialties site:

Even their site says it only works on a 2008. Weird.

Looks like they are liquidating those, not in the catalog now. Again, that pic isn't the wheel, but probably looks similar.

There are a couple things that could make it 2008 only. If they happen to to use an integral IDS hub it wouldn't work for you. If it is the bearing size even with the different bearing bore depth, it could be made to work. Maybe Drag can send you an actual pic (but doubtful).

You could use a 18 x 3.5" Ultima Wheel instead, but just a little more money. You can run a 150/70-18 Tire

Default Thanks!

Cool man thanks for the info!

A couple questions if you don't mind:

Is there some benefit to going with a 18x3.5 over a 16x3.5? I'm liking how my bike rides with the 21" on front and 16" in back. The front has been lowered 2".

I haven't been able to get a clear answer on what mods I'd need to do if I go with a 18x4.25. Would I have to do anything or should the 4.25 be a direct replacement on my 2006 with the 16x3?

Thanks again!

Really for you, I think the difference between 18" and 16" would be aesthetics...what looks better to you? The 18" might ride slightly stiffer because of less sidewall, but might not noticeable. Also if you use a 150/70-18, it will be slightly taller

Are you talking about that Drag 18x4.25 mentioned previously? What tire size do you expect/want to run on that 06? Why do you need a 4.25? The bike itself is a limiting factor.
