Default Rear Caliper Bracket Alignment

I've been troubleshooting some noise from the rear wheel for some time. It's caused from the pads banging against the rotor.

What I noticed when I have the rear wheel axle loose the caliper bracket is flush like it should be against the swing arm. Start to tighten the axle and this caliper bracket moves out. See attached.

My question here, are your brackets flush against the swing arm when you tighten the axle?

Any idea's what might cause this?

Hey CoolBreeze, thanks for the info, yup the bumper is in place. I believe it only supports the bracket up and down, not side to side though.

The bracket definitly moves out from the swingarm when I tighten the cam, if the cam is loose it's flush and where it should be.

The only other things I can think of is:

1. Check the axle to make sure it is true and not bent on the bracket end.
2. Make sure where the axle goes through the bracket that both side of the bracket are clean and have no interference.
3. If the caliper is tight on the bracket and centered on the rotor, then the bracket being away from the swing arm should not be an issue - maybe. Maybe look at someone else's EG and see what it looks like.

Or maybe someone will chime in and let you know how theirs looks.

Thanks again, I think #3 is where I want to check out. Might go by the dealer and check out a used bike and see if I can take some photos to compare.

Hey CoolBreeze, you were on the right track on this. The bumper is apparently the problem. I was able to speak with a HD tech last time I was at the dealer. He mentioned the bumper can move out of position and bind the bracket from alignment. Sure enough mine was out of position, actually way out of position. Not even sure how I didn't notice it. Pushed it back in so it was seated correctly. Now for a test ride.

Update! Problem solved. @CoolBreeze3646 was on point about that rubber nib thing on the bracket.
So mine was pushed out preventing the bracket from staying flush to the rear fork.
Fixed that , went for a test ride today... and the silence was great! No more brake chattering... so happy now.

Thanks to all and @CoolBreeze3646 !
