Default Tire life

I found out yesterday that the lowrider s only average 5k miles on the rear tires. I also have a Road Glide which gets about 18-20k on the rear. The size difference is 180/70/16 77H for fxlrs and 180/65/16 81H for the road glide, I should be ok put the 65/16 81H on the lowrider s for longer tire life right?

I would go to softail section/2018 and above softail section and ask questions there. There is even a discussion in there all about the LRS.
Just posting innthe 2018 Softail section would have 20 opinions or more by now.

But changing tire size isn't going to help you.

The 180 means tire is 180mm wide
The 70 after that means sidewall of tire (height of sidewall) is 70% of the width (your 180 size)
Therefore going to a 65 would give you a shorter tire, rougher ride and throw off your speedometer.
The 77 is your load rating (bike weight)
H is your speed rating.

The difference is the compound your tire is made up of.

Look at brand and stylenof tire for your needs.

So your Roadglide probably has the HD Dunlop 402 which is a much harder compound and obviously you ride VERY easy to get that many miles. With your riding style you will get 10k easy out of your Low Rider tire.

Your Lrs is a lighter bike and for safety reasons I wouldn't run that hard (high mileage) tire on that bike but I also won't run that on my touring bike.

IMHO
Problem with these high milage tires is definitely traction. They break loose way too easy under power on a decent running bike for going forward, then the exact same thing can be said for stopping!
As these Dunlop and high mileage tire freaks rave about how many miles they can get from a tire, I wonder how many could have been saved "if" they could have stopped just a little bit quicker?🤔
They preach about "only the best", but if all you needed was a little more stopping power, THAT would have been the best in a a crunch for sure....

I would leave the Lrs as is, for my own safety as the compound of that was chosen for performance and even if ya don't ride hard the stopping power could mean the difference in wreck and no wreck.

Ride Safe✌️

You would be
7 tenths of an inch taller tire but that would only be 3.5 tenths of an inch higher seat height.
Width is the same for the two.
showing 60 mph you will be at 61.7 miles MPH faster .

While not a big difference in height you will want to makes sure nothing like a bolt or wires are close.

and you found this out how? ... 5,000 miles on today's tires ( size is relative ) is pretty poor under normal operating conditions

I am sure ya read it wrong as I do VERY OFTEN, but he said change from 70 sidewall to 65 and would that not be a shorter tire? I read it a few times after your post as I definitely read everything to quickly.
