Default Michelin Commander 111 tires

I have used them until 2019 when my rear tire came apart on me. Yes they refunded my money. I liked them but after reading reviews I went with Dunlap AM elites and have been using then since with no problems. Have they worked out the problems ie: Vibrations, Humming noise and coming apart? When I used them they were very good traction.

I need to replace my Commander II's and I'm wondering if they fixed the issues on the III's ( delaminating, splitting) . If they did, are they improved enough that its worth switching to them from the II's?

I called a couple dealerships in the area to check prices on the Commander 3 and American Elite. I found it interesting that both shops did not have any Commanders (2 or 3) in stock, but had at least 3 American Elites in stock ready to mount. The American Elites were about $30 less expensive.

Bulldog HD in Smithfield NC has a special on in stock American Elite tires where they will mount them for free. Out the door prices was $299 and some change for the American Elite mounted and ready to ride.

I am going today or tomorrow to get one for the front of my Triglide and a NC state inspection. I got just over 15k miles on the current American Elite that I am replacing.

Angry Too Late For Me...

I wish I had discovered this thread before I had new tires installed on my sled a week ago.

I just had my bike completely serviced, and I had brand-new Michelin Commander 3 tires put on by J&P Cycles at their service center in Ormond Beach, FL.

Unfortunately, I encountered three issues with these tires.

First, I explicitly requested American-made tires, and they assured me that these were:

Additionally, one of the two tires they installed is over five years old.

Third, the five-year-old tire was put on the front, and now I have a substantial vibration at thirty-five miles an hour.

My question is: Didn't they conduct quality control or a test ride after the installation?

I assume J&P Cycle can file a warranty claim with Michelin for these tires, but my main concern is finding a local, trustworthy shop (hence my other post), to order and install a new set of tires.

After that, I’ll need to get reimbursed by J&P for the tires they installed, but I also have to return the defective tires to them.

Packing and shipping them back will incur additional costs—who is responsible for that?

@Dispatch

Warranty policy dictates whether shipping and handling is covered. Some do, some don't, in my experience with various companies.

M/C tires really suck. I don't know how we can get fresh tires, since the "industry" declares tires up to 5 years old can be sold as "new". I mean, even if you go to your local shop, how are they going to get fresh tires from an industry like this?
