Default Dyna Front Axle Spacer Question

Recently I have noticed that the front brakes were squealing, more than normal, and even on a roll without brakes applied.... so today I decided to clean the front brakes and check wear.

On closer inspection I see that the front wheel is favoring the throttle side, thus bringing the Rotor too close to the Fork Tube.
Not only is the Rotor rubbing the Brake caliper assembly, the bolts that hold the Rotor to the wheel are lightly rubbing, thus eating into, the fork !!!

Now I got the Wheel off.............
There is a significant difference in size to the "Spacers" that go Left/Right of the wheel on the axle....... on the Throttle side the spacer is half, if not more, smaller than the Clutch side.
Has always been this way with the spacers, and it did look to always favor the throttle side.
But when I try to work this out in my head...... I gotta be missing something !

With the Calipers off Axle snug.....
I rotate the wheel slowly and watch the rotor bolts hit on one side...... but there is precious little space on the other side.

I ask could this be a function of my front brakes not pulling equally on both sides, ( ie Dual Fronts), and that is enough to Pull the wheel to the Throttle side enough to make things rub ?
Should there be enough tolerance on wheel and axle to let the wheel "Float" to that extent ? ( If the space between the Rotor bolts and Fork throttle side was the width of a piece of paper... the other side only has the distance of two sheets of paper.... not alot to play with ! )

Did they leave something out on the last tire change I did at a New to me Indy shop ?

Any Thoughts on this guys............... I'd love to have Her back together Today !

Thanks in advance...................

You might try loosening the pinch bolts on the rh fork slider and seeing if that distance opens up, the shop might have tightened these bolt prior to torqueing the axle nut pulling the forks together. Re-tighten them to 16 to 20 ft/lbs I believe. Not sure if it will help, but it's something to check. Good luck

Thanx........
And an Excellent suggestion !
But alas was on of the first things I looked at.
With the calipers off, just the axle snug, Pinch bolt loose.... Rotor bolts "graze" the Fork Tube.

Im tempted to "Shim" it with a washer/spacer of sorts just to get it off the tube, but dunno why this should be, and why it just appears to have "Happened".
All parts look good, no wear or deformation..... why would the wheel move towards the throttle side ?

Anywyas.....

Thanx for the advice !

Post a few pics from the front so we can see what your seeing, showing both sides and clearances.

There should be enough room between the sliders for your rim with dual disks. I guess that was stating the obvious.

You shouldn't shim the slider, it will put strain on the slider bushings and extra friction for the slider to overcome.

The stock spec for end clearance in the wheel is something like .002" to .006". A piece of paper is around .004" thick.

Is this a stock setup?

Thanx for your thoughts.................

As far as Stock......
Pretty much, Chrome Calipers and After Market Rotors...... Chrome Wheels,,,, Not Stock, but has been fine since "99" with this setup...... Multiple services at Harley Shops as well as Indys.... nobody has thrown a red flag yet !

Clearance ......
I diddnt ever notice the the gap between Rotor bolts and forks being so close... but suppose it has been.
Like I said earlier, With the Throttle side rotor bolts barely touching the Fork, ( And they do make contact... you can feel it when you spin the wheel ! ), the Clutch side has about the gap of two sheets of paper.

I agree on adding stuff that aint called for...... but man its pretty and I sure wanted to ride this week-end....lol !

But Really kinda hung.......
I guess the only other avenue at this point is to break the wheel down and check bearings/shim kit there.
But it all feels good....... rotates smooth... no side to side play... bearings dont bind when Axle is tightened.

Things that make ya go "Hmmmmmm..."

Your rotor bolts haven't backed themselves out have they?

Okay.........

Decided to put the wheel back on just to look at it once again to see if there was something Im missing........Cant reproduce the issue !
Everything clears as it should now.

Roll Her outta the shed..... gonna take her for a shake down cruise.
Pull the choke, twist the throttle once before ignition as is my custom........ and the throttle sits there like a limp wash rag !

Take the assembly apart @ the grip..... got a broken cable !!!!!!!!!! $#!t/g0d%@#!!%^# !!!!

Ugh.........

My Harley motto...............
Its ALWAYS a hundred bucks....... and its NEVER as easy as its supposed to be !!!!!!

So I'll Update the Wheel issue.... after I address the Throttle Issue !
Gotta Luv Stainless... $$$......
