Question front wheel integrity

I am a new member of the broken bone club...a 17 year old on his dad's pick-up didn't want to wait to get to his proper turn lane, passed on a double yellow line and t-boned me on my '07 Softail Custom. It was a hard enough hit to break both bones in my left arm. The bike was hit on the front end, damaging, among other things, the front rotor and fork slider. Here's the question: would the impact cause hidden damage to the front wheel? I'm a little leary that the wheel's integrity may have been compromised. Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks,
Sore in Alabama

Guess it depends on what kind of wheel it has. Spoke? Alloy? Custom after market? Wouldn't be hard to see if there is any run out of the wheel itself and if it's cast, they could probably do something like a magna fulx to see any cracks. But I doubt the insurance company would get that involved and likely replace the front wheel, even if you have to get dirty with them to do it! Your life depends on those tires and wheels!

Side note. A friend of mine got in a accident, rear ended, in his brand new, less than a week old car. Was a lot of damage to the rear end and Uni-Body frame, from the rear passenger door to the rear bumper. The insurance Co. was going to fix it and said it would be as good as new. He brought up safety issues and pressed the issue. The insurance Co. kept saying it would be OK and as good as new.... He said, put it in writing that his vehicle's structural integrity and safety will be as safe or better, as the day it rolled off the assembly line. They totaled the car!

Thanks for the reply. It's spoke. I tend to agree with you....I think I'll insist the insurance company pay for a new one. It's my a** on the line.
