Default Plug or new tire?

Morning guys...I found a nail in my rear tire. My question is can it be plugged or do I need to replace the tire? There's only just over 4k miles on it.
Thanks,
Harry

I used to say plug it but on my last trip one of my buddies blew a plug out on the freeway at 80mph right in front of me. My response now is always get a new tire. It was about 100* out and he was riding 2 up. Luckily no one was hurt but get a new tire.

I'll second that!
I had a front tire less than 500 miles pick up a nail.
Plugged it and 300 miles later going 75 on the highway (hot, hot day), the plug came out, end up 4 broken ribs, collapse lung, wife got 4 broken ribs, learned my lesson, plug it to get off the higway and get a new one!

If it weren't for MAJOR mistakes, I'd never learn anything!

no plugs but patches are ok per dunlop website, I use a combo patch that has a plug built in to fill the hole. Had a nail in my 10 limited at 900 miles, still running it at 14000. Mike

Thanks for the responses! I chose to go w/new the tire. Yeah, it sucks but I'll feel better going w/the new tire.

Liking that this was right up top as in similar situation. Ran a screw into my rear tire the other day. I was looking to plug it with a mushroom style plug or tube it. It's a metzler with less than 500miles and I hate to replace it but trying to weigh costs to risks. So I'm gathering best to replace but would be okay to tube. Anyone have any issues with tubes?
