Question Changing tire size?

I know in cars you can go (not actual numbers but for example purposes only) from say a 205/70-16 to a 225/60-16 using the same wheel. Is there any advantage to going to a different profile tire on either the front or the rear of an FLSTC and if so what is the better profile size and why? I should probably add that it's for casual riding not all out pushing the limit and longevity is the goal while maintaining maximum safety and ride quality.

If you have stock 3" rims there are limits to what you can do. Max width most tyre brands recommends for 3" is a 150, which you already have on the rear. The next limitation is clearance with the belt. So it is unlikely you can go to a wider tyre IMHO without changing wheels.

I have just installed a Deuce rear wheel in my Glide, so have some experience doing this, but it is not a bolt-in job! I am sure your query has been asked before over in the Softail section, where you should get a better answer.
