Default Brake Flush

I recently purchased a Mighty Vac mv6835 kit. I decided to try it on the bike first. All I can say is wow. That old fluid came out nice and tea colored. (5k miles on bike) and the new fluid after a few runs is nice and clear. Point being I am sure the dealer or indy would charge close to $100 to flush front and rear. For the $160 I paid not only will brake service/replacement be a one man job, flushing will pay for itself after 2 uses. Brake fluid is one of the most neglected fluids on any motor vehicle bike car whatever. Just wanted to share how simple and worthwhile this tool can be. You will need a good sized air compressor to keep up with it. If you don't have one or access to one then this may not be for you.

Your point about changing fluid is well made, however it isn't necessary to buy expensive tools. I also have a Mityvac, but there are other instruments of torture available, even the traditional pipe and old bottle will work just as well!

Good Point "grbrown" ... Necessity is the mother of invention ... And a little "Yankee Ingenuity" always helps .

For a bike only, sure the bottle method will be more ideal for cost effectiveness. I assume anyone who would do brake flush on own bike would do their vehicles as well, and would justify the expense. That's the case for me anyway. Either way as long as it's done correctly and at regular intervals is always a good thing.

Your earlier comment about being your fluid being 'tea coloured' brings back memories. I used to help my Dad bleed the brakes on the family cars when young, then many years later the first bike I owned with hydraulic brakes was a new Harley. First time I bled the brakes on it I was shocked at the awful colour of the fluid, like tea left in the pot overnight, including a scum on the top. I never saw anything so bad when working with Dad, so I've been much more particular with my brakes ever since!
