Apparently you don't have to remove the disc ... Here's a pic (see below) of the needle bearing being removed using a "Press". Harley uses "Special" bearing pilot pieces along with the front axle (even on the rear wheel) to install the bearing/race, but you can probably get around that.
I would post your question where the Shovelheads live on this Forum HERE
I think you have saved me a lot of money I was going to cut up the disk weld the studs to the bits and a bit of rod to the bits so I could get the alien bolts moving but there seems to be a bit of spacer or some thing to cut out to get the C clip out I will weld a big nut to the bearing or a bit of flat and press it out I like it when a plan comes to gather I will let you know if all goes well or knot I have some one going to give me a prise on a disk spacer and five bolts I hope he will knot be to pist off with me thanks a lot lot lot mate
They use a needle bearing not a tapered roller bearing (it's like an inner cam bearing, but larger) on one side and a ball bearing assy on the other in the front.
In the Rear, again a needle bearing on one side and apparently a set of 2 tapered roller bearings on the chain sprocket side
I have sorted it out made a puller that got in the back of the case and iv got a set of bearing on the way so with fingers X I hope all is on track so thanks to all how that have helped me and looked things up for me I hope you all have a happy exams and a happy new year to all HO HOHO
I am having trouble getting the back disk off I think the get how had the bike befor me must have had a big tube of red lock tight just can’t move the and screws they are 1/4 iv tried a Allen key was a good one but it’s bent now got a socket but was a 3/8 drive had it on a air gun but no I had to put it on a reducer from 1/2 to 3/8 though iv got a 1/2 drive on the way sent for it a way back but they sent me a 1/2 with a 1/2 drive so sent back still waiting iv tryed a bit of heat but mite need bigger gun mite have to weld the heads to the disk and then with a disk grinder cut it up so I can get a lump hammer on the bits to loosen them up but it’s a bit drastic don’t you think chaps hope you all had a good Xmas 👌
