Default Ironbags Install on a Fatboy

Finally!! Yay! Here's just a tease... Just unpacked them and got some good fingerprints on them.

These are Iron Max saddlebags by Ironbags..

They fit FLH, FX and Softail
Dimensions: 14" tall x 8" deep x 22" wide .. Biggest aftermarket bags I've ever seen available for softails.

Sorry Tom I remember I was going to give you a weight in the box.. I couldn't wait as there was a bit of rough-housing by the carrier UPS to the box, and I had to get them out quickly to make sure they were ok.. Thankfully they were fine. I will try to get at least a weight of the bag by itself, but the serious heavy duty brackets do add significantly to the weight.. These are some super-serious bags.

First, I can say I've never seen motorcycle saddlebags made of leather like this.. I expect these bags, with proper care as excellently detailed by Donna at Ironbags in instructions, to outlast the fatboy itself... Max has a superior design for looks, construction and quality of materials and workmanship with these Iron bags. Incredible Hermann Oak leather. Worth every single penny, I say.

I truly expect that eventually if I sell off the bike, these bags are staying with me... The quality is to that level. They're coated and greased and the instructions details explicitly how to properly care for the bags and they came with dye, polish and grease. Military grade snaps front and back for the flaps and the thickest, toughest leather I've ever seen, like horse saddle leather.. Incredible! I'm beyond thrilled.

Will be a while before I can get the bike on the rack to start working on the taillights but I shot off a few pics just as a tease.. [8D] and to show the sheer size of these monsters... For a long weekend trip, I think they'll easily retire my sissybar bag entirely. HUGE! You can see by the coffee car mug beside them just how big these bags are. Big time storage, but very stylishly designed and shaped!
Mounting is very heavy duty.. all included.. They use three of the strut bolts like Tom and Chris's bags, but the Iron Max also has a 4th point mount... There's a bracket that hangs down on each at the bottom rear and attaches to another bracket that goes under the fender for support off the bike. These are some incredible bags.

So you'll see in another thread I have, I have to remove the signals.. Ordered Bubbasbrakes laydown license plate mount with signal mounts built in.. I'll be moving my oem bullets there, but might go with some adjure bullets with some visors later.

I can't wait to see these on my scoot!

Yeah right.. sure thing guys.. hehehehehehehehehehehehe
I did move the bike from the garage down into my basement / garage area.. Monumental achievement of the day. Man I need baby-sitters and no more house projects. But don't worry.. I'm pretty darn anxious to see them on the bike. Signals and license plate mount removal first. Then install of Bubba's kit when it gets here sometime next week. Might even have to pull that rear tire for the license plate mount.. PITA.. Oh well..

I think it is inexcusable to be wasting your time vacationing in Hawaii, when you should be home installing your new saddlebags.

hehehehe! Nah, I'd opt for hawaii anytime.

Progress report: I actually did get some work done.. yawn.. late night.

The signals are GONE! Got tired of trying to disconnect the connectors at the end of the signal wires. "snip! snip!" Guess I'll be buying a couple connectors unless I want to splice and solder.

Got them off the struts and it taught me how those brackets are setup inside the fender.. Svc manual helps, bigtime. Only ran into one snag where I goofed.. Had the front detach bolt loose and I took out the front "hole 1" bolt, so the bracket fell. I did have to get a small wrench up there and push the bracket back into place to thread the bolt.. lesson learned.. You can remove one, but keep the other one snug or it will have to be pushed back up behind the fender to thread the bolt.

Right side bag is on, before it just got way too late last night.. wow..... wow wow! That's about all I can say.

To me... the coolest looking thing I've ever bolted onto this bike. and BIG!.. Extends down enough to even cover up the axle. Fills about all that rear space that you can fill, and thick. Still plenty of clearance for the axle cover, just from observation, but I'll double check later when I get them both done. Can't wait to get some pics. Would have done the left side, but I just plain ran out of time. I imagine, if I didn't mind scuffing up the bike, and really trusted my kick-stand I could probably stand on these bags after full install with the last bracket that goes under the tail-end of the rear fender.

License plate is gone, waiting on the replacement.. and I am considering swapping the OEM signals with something nicer.

Glad to see you are making progress.
I can still feel where my fingers were pinched between the fender and the tire. I was determined to hold the nut plate strips in place so I wouldn't have to remove the fender.
My new LED rear blinkers did not come with the end electrical connectors. Even if I had managed to remove the original rear signals without cutting the wires I would of still had to cut the electrical connectors off to splice onto the new wires.
I am hoping my Krome Werks drag pipe baffles show up today, so I can get that project done.
