I was thinking about buying a set of raked trees for my 2007 FXDB. Has anyone ever done this before? If so, can anyone tell me the Pros/Cons of using raked trees as opposed to altering the frame of the bike? I just want my Street Bob to look more like the 2007 Wide Glide, with the 35 degrees of rake and the forward mounted foot controls. Thanks alot guys.
thanks keith. . . i've looked into it a little more and I don't know if it's more cost efficient and/or safe to buy raked trees or stretch the downtubes on the frame. the link you provided was of great assistance. if you have any more ideas just shoot me a line here. again, I really appreciate it.
swap your trees with wideglide trees.if i remember correctly it will give you 3 degrees.search for wsg formula triple tree conversion, hedid put wdg trees on a low rider.looks awesome to

Raking the neck will increase trail, more stability, less responsive. Raking the trees will do the opposite, decrease trail, less stability, more responsive. But reduce trail too much and it is dangerous. . high speed wobbles and other problems. 3"-5" of trailis probably good.
I *think* the lowrider has 1.5 degrees rake in the trees and the WG has 2 degrees. So if the necks are all the same, then up to 2 degrees is obviously safe because the factory does it. Does the aftermarket make any trees for the bigger tubes yet? Last I checked, they didn't. Factory LR trees would allow you to keep the rest of your parts. Factory WG trees would require some other parts since the tube spacing is different.
this is what ws6 formula used with part numbers and prices.i have pics of a streetbob with the wide glide front end on it.but my photoshop is messed up.so if someone can post them for me for people to see what a streetbob with wdg trees on it email or p.m..ill send to you for you to post thanks.i plan on doing this mod ,this yr.but this is what he used to put a wdg on a low rider.it will work exactly the same on the streetbob, same parts.and a hell of alot cheaper, unless you go with the billet wdg trees from harley.cheaper then buying a whole new front end
jackyl,
Here's what I used: 21" wheel from a wide Glide, upper and lower triple clamps, axle, axle spacers, 3/4" spacers and 3/4" longer Allen head bolts for mounting the fender, and washers (.090") to center the caliper over the rotor. Use other existing hardware from your bike (axle nut, triple clamp pinch bolts, head bearings and nut, fender nuts, forks).
Clayman,
I bought the parts from Zanotti'sback in June, after realizing the 21" wheel I got off eBay would only fit if I used the Wide Glide triple clamps. Also read post #16.
Here are the part numbers and prices:
46700-06 Upper Triple Clamp.....$ 65.75
46386-06 Lower Triple Clamp....$139.83
40923-06 Front Axle..................$ 28.39
40926-06 RH/FRT Spacer.............$ 4.58
40927-06 LH/FRT Spacer.............$ 4.58
Total..$243.13
Jackyl,
Are the parts you listed compatible with the 49mm front forks on the 07 Bob? Also, you said you upgraded to a 21" wheel. Doesn't the size of the wheel effect the trail of the bike? If I were to keep my stock front wheel do you think I would have problems with my trail? You guys are awsome! Thanks again.
