Big thanks to all I have the build done! went fairly easy, I have a few questions.......................
With the Hi Performance SE multi layered gaskets do you need o rings?
And I used SE quick install rods- when they say 2-2 1/2 turnsafter 0 lashdo they mean complete revolutions? They seem awfully tight?? I don't want to run it and bend a valve!
Yes they do - 2 1/2 complete turns is correct - remove all clearance and adjust - I put a mark on one of the flats and then count. Be sure you're on the TDC compression stroke - after adjusting the pushrods on one cylinder - allow 20 minutes for the lifter to bleed down before you turn over the engine to the other TDC commpression stroke. Don't forget to tighten the jam nuts. Good luck.
Yes what Retired_Ted said
Their are several different ways to install and adjust pushrods, this is one of them. I know the first time I did it I was thinking there is no freaking way this is right. S&S pushrods say to turn them 3 1/3 more revolutions. I thought I was going to break something for sure. But then I waited 10 minutes and the lifters bleed down and I was amazed. The pushrod would then rotate with light finger pressure. Just remember to allow for the front lifters to bleed down before rotating therear wheel to find TDC on the rear lifters. Very, very important to wait for bleed down before finding TDC. Good luck.
I hope your not confused now...
AHHHHHHH She's all back together and sounds real good! Thanks for the advice! I am waiting for the weather to break! Hopefully this weekend! Supposed to be 50 although my seat is at mean cycle.........
Ok I had the chance to get her out but the streets where wet and I was riding with a make shift seat (cut the pan out of my old softail seat). I was not feeling real safe as you may guess.
I did feel the power and could tell that it is going to be good. I did experience one problem, It felt like a bad plug or wire? It was sputtering and kind of loosing power?? It felt just like- as if the coil had moisture or a plug wire arcing?? I am picking up a seat in the morning, it is supposed to be dry and 50 here and i am going to do a proper test ride.
Anyone have any ideas on what to look for before the ride? I do remember having a problem with poor grounding and the ignition acting funny on a fatboy I rode for a while?? I have changed the plugs and the wires.... what else?
I am running
SE Performance Heads
Ported and polished
Hi compression SE pistons
257 Cam
25 degree
SE breather
SERT
141PA004-AO
TREX duals
Just returned from a 1500 ml breaking. We got real lucky and had some real nice weather broke out of Chicago and headed south through Missouri and Arkansas.
Any suggestions on what to check? I figure I will do the 1k and the 5k since the bike turned 5500. Not a bad start on the season! Bike ran real strong and a little fat which is a good thing for those break in miles..... I am probably going to change the exhaust, the TREX are way to loud at 200+ miles! I want to leave he ride in her!!!
