Default Flat battery after Tmax install

G'day Everyone

After a holiday of about 10 days, I came home to find my battery dead flat, wouldn't even tick it was that dead (I was supposed to be riding it tothe 1st service). The only mods I have done relating to the electrics is install a thundermax autotune.

I charged the battery back to full, reinitiallised the tmax and rode for about 50 kms. The bike was ok, Imonitord the bike using tmax software and the charge was back to normal.

I went out this morning, you guessed it, dead falt again.

Anyone have any similar experience??

I am on a 2007 superglide custom.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Well the thundermax gets it power only after the key is turned on unless there is a fault somewhere.

I have left mine for over 2 weeks and starts first crack.

Mine is an 07 Fatboy

Dont see how the Thundermax could be the culprit but you never know.

Next time recharge the battery go for a ride shut it down and disconnect the battery and leave it for a day or so and see if it happens again

Thanks Scotty

I don't see how the tmax could be the culpritt either, but it is the only thing I have done to the bike. I'll charge it and get it across to Canberra for the 1st service and ask the dealer tocheck it for me.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, probably not the TMAX itself, but in the process of installing it you may have gotten into or pinched another wire somewhere.

I've got a 2007 RKC that is doing the exact same thing. The battery is charging tonight and I'm taking it back to the mechanic that installed the TMax. This is the second new battery in two months.I've e-mailed zippers and they suggest I reload the MAP to see if that corrects the problem, that is what the mechanic will do tomorrow. (I've checked voltage while the bike is running and everything checks fine. It just drains the battery if it sits a day or two). If this dosn't fix the problem Zipper's told me to send the unit back and they would replace it. Hopefully reloading the MAP will correct the problem and I'll be back to riding. I'll let you all know how this turns out and what we find out tomorrow.

Turn bike off as normal. Remove negative wire from battery, then use a lamp tester between battery ground and ground wire. If the light turns on you have a draw draining your battery. Pull fuses till light goes out and you found the circuit that is killing your battery. If no light you have no draw and battery is discharging itself. Hope you find your problem.

g'day fellas

Thanks for the replys. I'll chase up the gear to do the test you suggestJosh - thanks mate.

BCRider - I'll await your reply to see how you turn out. I hope you have a suitable outcome.

Thanks for all who have attempted to resolve my probably very simple, but extremely frustrating issue.

I'll get back after I sort a few things out and let you all know the result.

here it goes - I have recharged (2nd time) and everything is still OK after 3 days. Bike starts first crack. Only time will tell I suppose....

So Glens do you reckon a pinched wire will drain charge from battery? Being a Dyna, the cord from the ECM to connect to laptop is wound up inside side panel. A tight fit and may have been the cause. I did have the tmax in for about 3 months before the 1st flat battery.
Does anyone know if after batterydisconnection and following re-initialisation of TMAX will I have i lostlearned settings? I am getting a fair bit of popping and gurgling, which I actually don't mind the sound of, I'm just not too sure of what harm it may be causing?

BCRider - how have you gone with your problem?

Man4mopar - I went and bought a lamp tester and tried your suggestion. I had a dull glow pulled all fuses and nothing dimmed it. I turned key on and it lit brightly so i figured the dull light meant it wasn't draining. Is this correct?

A big thank you to all who have tried to help.
