The Village of New Glarus, WI, is also known as Swiss Town. There's a huge Swiss population there - so much so, that there are more Swiss flags than American flags in town, and it's not uncommon to hear someone speaking Swiss.

To celebrate that heritage, the village has erected a little village/living history museum in town. Included there is a log cabin from the initial settlement.

The website for the place is:
http://www.swisshistoricalvillage.org/

There is a lot of Swiss architecture in town, too...

I used to live just outside of New Orleans. I thought that place had festivals... Holy crap, if New Glarus doesn't have a festival going on that weekend, I think they throw a party to celebrate. Not sure what all the hoopla is about the place - it's like 8 city blocks... but hey...

How's that?

Ragnar

Great July 4 story. Like everything with Swiss influence it all looks exceptionally clean and well kept. Wonder if that has something to do with the dairy influence?

I'd say you nailed that one...
What's next?
I already took two rides today, and I'm heading out for the remainder of the afternoon - beautiful weather here all last week and next - I don't want to waste it...

Just got back from downtown where I grabbed a couple of photos just in case someone asks for a 40' inflatable rubber duck...

Possibly. In our case, it has a lot to do with pride in what's ours. The Swiss tend to be thrifty. One of our guys states that he dug the Grand Canyon, 'cause someone dropped a dime in a crack and he went after it. They also tend to take care of what's theirs. You know... a stitch in time saves nine...

Awesome. And to think... I was just going to ask for a duck, precisely 40 feet, and inflatable. That's hilarious!

Time's ticking on our weather, that's for sure. It ain't looking good in about 2 weeks... not sure beyond that.

Anyway, without any further delay, how about a brew pub? Got a good one in town? What's good on the menu? Got a favorite craft brew? (GOS, menu, and/or hot waitress on the seat, please!)

There's one in Mount Horeb called the Grumpy Troll, and it has some KILLER sammiches. They brew their own root beer, too, which is friggin' awesome. (I don't drink - lost the taste for any alcohol just suddenly one day about 5 years ago... just can't stand the taste anymore!)

I have one here that's a killer - the micro-brewery is right inside the pub.
The tables are all mingled in with the equipment.
Stainless steel lines running overhead, tanks up against the walls and such.
And the food is off the charts.

It's always good to find a seat under a leaky elbow (free refills)...
..but I think I'll sit this one out & give somebody else a shot.

I'm going ridin'...

Looks like about a day late.

It's at my favorite state park in Indiana. We finally moved with in about 10 miles of it. It's Spring Mill State park and those are a couple of buildings in the pioneer village they have restored and they have live re-en-actors there daily through the spring, summer, and fall.

Switzerland Official languages:
French Language
German Language
Italian Language
Romansh language

They speak lots of languages, most learn English in school, too.

John, pics from inside that pub would be worth posting, just because the place sounds interesting.
