The front door:

The "Members & Guests" sign:

And it IS in the country:

And I *DO* have a key... but the stripper pole has apparently been taken down in order to use the stage for a band this past weekend... and the pool table is back in it's normal spot. Bonus - those pictures all around the top border of the room are all David Mann photos from vintage EasyRider mags... some 90-100 of them, actually...

So... how do we feel about that? Obviously, no quarter million dollar cars in designated parking spots, but... it IS a private, members only club in the country...

Like I said, if it counts, fine... if not close enough to the challenge's definition/intent, fine. I had a good ride anyway!

Good on you, JAM! There IS a Members and Guests sign there below the nameplate.

Still... I bet mine's more fun! :P

Well... two things.

1) You ever find yourself out this way, you can be my guest. No problem, my friend!

2) I played golf one time. I thought "hey, I shot an 87! Must be ok at this crap!" Uh, yeah... that's when my buddy told me there were 17 more holes to go. I saw that windmill on hole #2, and the clown on #3, and said "F*@& THAT!" - never tried again. We just drag-raced the golf carts after that. WAY better.

So, yeah, I'd say you DEFINITELY met the challenge. Good story, to boot. Next up?

..I hear that.
Everybody's talents are different.
Some people can golf, play piano or whistle with two fingers.
I can't do any of that chit...

OK - next up, how about an authentic, old-time log cabin?
Bonus points if it has historical significance...

eg:

Sweet lookin' crib! Got a story behind that one, or just a neat place?

Interesting challenge, brother!

I don't remember the whole story right off-hand, but it was "saved" from demolition by a local preservation group, who dismantled it and rebuilt it piece by piece in its current location, inside a local county park.
You have to really look close but is you search you can still find small numbers on every timber, and even rocks in the chimney from when they re-assembled it.
(Not stone by stone, but rather they ground out the mortar and took it down in big chunks...)

They have "open house" every Sunday from spring to fall, and the interior has been restored and is filled with furniture and amenities of the time.
The tour guides even dress in colonial garb and carry muskets and flintlocks...

Good job on the country club sign and next challenge. In addition to the pics I am enjoying reading the background info the winners are supplying about the object/item/place selected.

Had to look at the view overlooking the grass to make certain it WASN'T a golf course. Looks like a great place to hang. Glad you had a great ride, after all, that is the object of the game!

Completely agree. It's a bit more fun when there's something more than just a pic and go. Those are OK, too, but...

Yeah, we have about 6 acres that belongs to the club, and access to a few more. The members do a fantastic job of keeping the place nice - especially the prospects, of course. Lots of hell gets raised out there, too... and, since you like the stories to go along with it, here's one.

Last 4th of July, we held a family night. Huge grill going, and tons of other food. We ate like kings and queens, and partied like fools. At dusk, we lit up the sky with some respectable mortars and such. The festivities were started off with a big can of Tannerite at 200 yards, and a .308, compliments of yours truly. (That stuff leaves one BIG crater!)

Anyway, it wasn't long after the first few kabooms that the local fuzz showed up at the gate... and he sat there... and sat there... and finally came down on foot, very reluctantly. He was met by about 10 of our members, just inside of the gate. He stated that there were complaints of fireworks in the area, and that ours were the ones he saw. He had to check them out. He asked if we had a permit. "Well yeah... yeah we got a permit. Got it in 1974 from a cop in (a neighboring county, out of the jurisdiction). Yeah we got a permit! Good for life!" With that, the officer nodded, thanked us for our cooperation, and told us to enjoy the rest of our festivities!

Honestly, we're just a bunch of good guys who have one hell of a club. We do a lot of good in the community, and the community (in general) appreciates our existence. We're not saints, but we're not all bad... Club's been around since '69.
