I have been on the mechanic end of the spectrum. I thought the 5,000, 10K, 30K maintenance schedules was a rip off. We would charge 3 hours to do one. If I couldn't be done in an hour or a little better I was sitting around drinking coffee and eating donuts. Same with brakes -- we got 4 hours a 4 wheel brake job -- took less than 2 hours. I can do them in my driveway in just over 2 hours jacking up each wheel individually.
If you can't do the work, its worth it. If you can do the work, do it yourself and put that money toward riding. Its not rocket science. If you need to hook up a scanner (not cheap) then you might need the dealer. Case in point right now is that you want to have the passing lights on all the time -- its computer controlled on the 14's and 15's.
The dealer will try to use scare tactics to get your business. Words like void warranty. They have to prove that you did the maintenance wrong.
dude change the oil period.. done.... the rest of the inspections are free and you do some of the before you get on the bike each morning.
90 bucks for oil change at dealer 20-30 at home don't sweat the rest, read the book that came with the bike not the service charge list at the Harley shop with their suggested maintenance schedule. good luck ride safe
